UTÖ

  • Jasmine Färling

Utö, meaning ‘outer island’, is the southernmost year-round inhabited island in Finland. This moving image piece is part of a larger body of work including still images, and has been exhibited as a projection on the wall at Copeland Gallery in London and Swansea College of Art in Wales. The video emphasises the isolation and remoteness of the island by showcasing the monotonous, long and uneventful journey to the faraway island. This on-going project is a personal exploration to understanding the local mindset and why individuals willingly choose to live a life of isolation.
