Venture Media

  • Ash Harvey

Whilst studying Journalism I created an online multi-media website, presenting the best in youth culture, art, music, photography, technology and current affairs. During my studies I conducted several high profile interviews with members of state such as Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of The Labour Party. Alongside my Journalism studies, I taught myself the skills needed to create the foundation of the first version of Venture Media. Three overhauls and hosting switches later I then completed my studies and focused solely on Venture Media. During the peak of Venture Media, I led a team of staff, freelancers and collaborators to produce a variety of acclaimed articles, short films, exhibitions and interactive media. Producing over 250 articles throughout their first year. Venture Media went on to plan the production of a feature length documentary and push online advertisement sales. Using the knowledge I developed whilst creating Venture Media, he was able to secure over 1000 followers on the companies Facebook and Twitter pages. This was testament to a variety of digital marketing methods such as Facebook Advertising and Search Engine Optimisation with appropriate social call to action’s. I expanded my collaborating base by attending business networking events with the Prince’s Trust, including a networking summit at Microsoft’s London HQ. On April the 15th 2017, Venture Media hosted one of the largest independent exhibitions ever to be held in Watford. Making use of an old Theatre house I spearheaded a project that included over 20 artists, creatives, musicians, photographers, and video game designers. ‘The Hub’ was a sell-out event receiving over 150 guests throughout the evening and night. The creative exhibition hosted a safe space for young creatives in the community to showcase their work. Live Music performances to Video Game demo’s ‘The Hub’ had something for everyone. My key mantra was one of self-sustainability for young creatives wanting to make a break into their respective industries. Many of the exhibitors sold art work and photographic prints throughout the night to ‘The Hub’s’ many guests. Whilst preparing for the event, I was enrolled with The Prince’s Trust Enterprise course taking any opportunity I could to network with the course leaders. Several weeks before the event I was able to secure a small grant that funded the venue and security hire. With the grant awarded to me from The Prince’s Trust the event was able to turn over a profit and sustained the business for several months. Following the success of Venture Media’s first exhibition ‘The Hub’ the media company continued to produce well-received hard hitting original content. Investigating the international cyber attack ‘Wanna Cry’ with a Cyber Investigations Consultant to documenting the damaging fallout of Brexit and the UK’s political atmosphere. Late 2017 I retired Venture Media going on to begin a career with London based fashion retail giant ASOS. Whilst working on personal creative projects, I have also produced freelance and collaborative work with other companies such as independent record label Phase.
