Vesa | People Of the Earth

  • Ashen Page

My first short doc I shot, edited and directed while resident at regenerative agricultural project in Croatia. “Why do the younger generation not want to work on the land?” “Because it’s hard work and they love to have it easy even if that means they won’t have a good life… the younger generations prefer to work less and live well but it’s not possible. That’s it.” This documentary investigates Vesa’s connection with life and the work she does, seeing how the two are inherently tied to each. In this moment of time faced with ecological devastation, mass attention is given to technological solutions. As we move into a far greater tech centric world the younger generations are becoming less interested in working with the earth and seek better opportunities in the cities and elsewhere. Though this means Vesa a Croatian sheepherder could be the last of her generation and therefore here knowledge and relationship with the earth could therefore be forgotten with her. In this short profile doc I follow Vesa through her morning routine with the sheep and ask her metaphysical questions.
