Dr Helen is Scientific Director for the cancer charity Victoria’s Promise, which was founded with a promise from an amazing woman called Victoria who, when diagnosed with cancer, vowed that no woman should go through the struggles she faced.
The charity aims to make certain that every individual going through cancer, is provided with personalised support and treatment services that best increase the chance of survival and quality of life. Cancer should not stop you living your best life!
As a scientist, and having (almost too much) information, Helen asked herself, what would she do if diagnosed? Despite her knowledge of genetics and cancer, the answer was still “just Google it”. You trust your doctors to provide you with the appropriate medical treatment, but what can you do yourself?
To try and answer this, we undertook a comprehensive search of all of the supplements and dietary recommendations and trends and found whether the science behind their effectiveness was legit. We hope our findings will help others navigate their way through the “just google it” minefield.
