Visual Identity of the Year 2015 - Portland England

Our 2015 Visual Identity of the Year went to James Burton Design for the Portland England brand.

James and the team at Portland England worked to create the visual identity of this new skincare range. "Portland have created an exceptional skin care range that best prepares men for the day ahead whether battling force 8 gales or a boardroom storm," said James.

The brief was to develop a new brand identity and packaging collection taking inspiration from the British tradition of the Shipping Forecast, of which Portland is a sea area in the English Channel.

The collection consists of 14 products and, including the outer packaging, culminates in a total of 25 elements, all of which had to be individually considered while ensuring that a coherent brand consistency united the collection together.

The boundary lines of the Shipping Forecast feature in gold foil, standing out from a map of the British Isles. The continuous modular sequence of the wave is used to bring the products together, emphasising the hydrational performance of the products and the rugged nature of the open seas.

The collection was complimented by a range of branded stationery items, marketing material and an e-commerce website.
