VIY is all about Volunteering It Yourself. The project combines volunteering and DIY by challenging young people aged 16-25 to learn valuable trade and building skills on the job by committing to fix local youth club and community buildings in need of essential repairs.
In addition to the young volunteers, VIY also involves professional trades people (such as plumbers, joiners, roofers and electricians) volunteering to work alongside young people in youth clubs as skills mentors.
Developed by Cospa in partnership with London Youth, the Big Lottery Fund, Wickes and City & Guilds, VIY launched in south London in February 2011. The project has been such a success that in 2013 we begun our national role out to Birmingham and Wales.
