WAR ON EDUCATION

  • Matteo Ruperto

Ukraine has rightfully dominated the news since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Most of the coverage has been about the military operations, the humanitarian crisis and international affairs. The misuse of history by Putin, including the introduction of a single history schoolbook, and attacks on education, received much less attention. The ongoing educational reform in Ukraine, that already started before the war, and combines history with civic learning, received hardly any attention at all. We are making the War on Education to change this. This is important, because educators from Ukraine need more support in order for them to provide the education that their students need under these dire circumstances, and because a more public understanding of how history can be misused will help prevent people being manipulated.
