WASTE SPEAKERS

  • Tom Meades
Cradle-to-Cradle is a form of design production which aims to design out waste from the beginning of the process. It starts by accepting that a product will not last forever, and therefore means that the material should not be restricted to serving one form forever.
This can be achieved by designing products to be able to re-enter industry as a raw material, or biodegrade back into nature after use.
The Waste Speakers casing are made using 100% waste plastic. More specifically plastic bags (LDPE). This material melts under a low temperature, and can be reformed at least 50 times while maintaining it's rigidity and aesthetic. After it's use as a speaker, the parts can be sent back to industry to be reformed into new fashionable products.
Designing products that produce zero waste would mean a huge reduction to the 8 million tonnes of waste plastic that enters our oceans every year.
