Website Design for CATWALK Charity Fashion Show

  • Rose Kleeger

In June 2020 I joined the CATWALK Charity Fashion Show committee as a Marketing Assistant. One of my first tasks was to give the website a revamp -- which I believed was particularly important in conveying the consistent success and production value of the annual show to potential sponsors, who may have no prior connection to the University.

CATWALK Charity Fashion Show is an annual event that is held as part of the University of St Andrews' Charities Campaign. Each year, the students select three charities (one each local, national and international) to benefit from the collective fundraising efforts of the whole Campaign.
I taught myself how to make the most of Wix to create a design and flow that fit with the aesthetic of CATWALK and that would be able to last throughout the annual changes to the theme and selected charities. I wanted to create a site that could act as an archive for the show, celebrating the event as well as the people behind making it possible.

For a student-run initiative, the level of professionalism displayed is remarkable and I wanted to do it justice.
Having joined the committee right at the start of the pandemic, it was rewarding to have been able to accomplish this project when other areas of CATWALK (being an in-person event) came to a halt. At the very least, our online presence moved forward even if the 2021 show could not.
I graduated St Andrews in May of 2022, and handing over the management of the website in the capable hands of the next cohort. I am pleased to see that, as of writing this, the site remains largely as I had designed it and has been updated to include the newest round of committee members, models and photographs.
