WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

  • Liberty Smith

The artist Angela Charles shares the challenges of losing her sight and her experience of ‘coming out’ to everyone after years of hiding it. Multiple voices weave narration and audio description: 'Daniel', Angela’s iPhone (an essential technology for sight loss), a philosophising Audio Describer and Angela's mentor, the artist Bedwyr Williams. Over the course of the film they morph into interactive characters that respond and converse with Angela as we travel through her experiences of finding a new creative path forward. The film explores ideas of 'seeing', the power and limitations of language to describe the visual world, and questions our preconceptions in asking us, what are you looking at? Why make visual art if you can't see it?
