What Do You See? - A Visualisation of Mental Health in the Creative Sector

  • Elizabeth Haynes

What Do You See is a self initiated brief aiming to encourage creative individuals to take charge of their right to a healthy mental well-being and to speak out against taboo. It was inspired by creative initiative Never Not Creative and Ulster University’s Changing Arts and Minds Survey, using the visualisation of those affected bring attention to shocking mental health statistics. Originally designed to be displayed at the Nottingham Trent University's BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree show, fellow design students and other creative individuals attending would be able to engage with the infographics; a tool to encourage the signing of Never Not Creative’s pledge and consider their mental well-being within their future and/or current workplace. The Rorschach-style infographics have be created directly proportional to the statistics they present to give an accurate representation of the surveyed sample. Ulster University’s Changing Arts and Minds Survey (2017): Shorter, GW, McCann, S & McIlherron, L 2018, Changing Arts and Minds: A survey of health and wellbeing in the creative sector.
