I was brought up in Cairo. Egypt is a hectic environment and I became aware that I rarely stopped to study the individuals around me. This is a journey I took as a photographer, spending time with creative individuals in the spaces in which they create. I am interested in how a creative navigates their space; where their inspiration, their dreams and memories, come to life. These are portraits of artists, photographed in their houses, gardens, public spaces or their studios. Working with a manual film camera from the latter half of the 20th century, brings a certain authenticity which helps to highlight my subjects and their professions. Art is important and I want my environmental portraits to highlight this.
