WHAT'S A BOY SUPPOSED TO DO?

  • Henry McCready

The collection brings awareness to male mental health following a naive boy’s childhood freedom, fighting against the pressures that come with age; restrictions of adulthood can lead to failure and for some being unable to cope. Made entirely from studio and mill scraps; and using creative pattern cutting minimized waste. I have combined the cutting and manufacturing stages together, patchworking the off-cuts from the garment into the same garment or another area of the collection. Incorporating production markings. Bringing out the character of discarded, enables the unusable to be usable and promotes British material and therefore reducing the carbon footprint. I used only studio and mill scraps as I have always been interested in the idea of craft and community. This can be seen throughout the collection, from the raw materials of British ateliers, to the patchworking and hand finished garments. The collection incorporated a collaboration with a hand knitter.
