Where Were You in ’22? | Paddy Power

’Tis the season to watch footy — or so reckons Peter Crouch in this Christmassy World Cup spot from Riff Raff director Rich Hall and Droga5 agency for Paddy Power. He might be right, as these humorous scenes make evident. An organist gets distracted watching a football stream on her phone during a carol performance. Pub-goers chant for two-footed tackles during a boozy rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. And a festive light display recreates Zidane’s famous headbutt from World Cup 2006. Who knew that football and Christmas could be such a harmonious combo? We dynamically adapted several classic carols to make the montage as merry as possible, while also sourcing the choir vocals which grace the recordings. After an unexpected organ glissando in the middle of ‘Deck The Halls’, a choral re-record of ‘Cwm Rhondda’ evolves into a football chant. Our score then reaches a rousing climax as a stirring orchestral arrangement brings plenty of Christmas cheer (even if there is no room at The Inn for Crouchy).
