willow exploration into contemporary craft & design

as a trained basket maker I have a deep knowledge of willow and its preparation for use, from planting to finished products. to test my skills and explore the possibilities for the material this project was to develop the integration of willow crafts into contemporary design. willow growing and harvesting is a low carbon resource that increases the area of land that can be productive in areas not suitable for many other uses including flood planes with a high tolerance for water. Merging the creative skills developed during my time at Staffordshire university on their 3D Designer Maker course I envisioned the natural colours working in contrast and relying on the variable form making potential of willow to realise my designs into their final forms.
