Winged Beauty - Wallace Chan

  • Martina Margaux Cozzi

The film was conceived as a visual Haiku to promote the launch of the book and exhibition “Winged Beauty”, an unprecedented study of one of Chan’s main motifs - the butterfly - which, in Chinese culture, is one of the most recognized symbols of love and immortality and have been reincarnated time and again through different art forms. The flowers are entirely shot under UV light, poetically replicating the UV vision of the butterflies. UVIVF is a specific photographic technique that has rarely, if not never, been used before for moving images.
