Drawings born out of the reassuring familiarity and circularity of seasonal change and the colour and brightness found in winter. The change in the light on cloudscapes, the sound of starlings squawking as they settle into roost, the brightness of fireworks at night and the wonder of the moon's lunar phases - these all evoke warm childhood memories and provide a comforting reminder of the feelings associated with the year coming to an end, and of new beginnings. A personal piece to echo the theme of cycles and new life includes a portrayal of the awe felt while seeing the moon in a January sky while giving birth. The experience of hiking up Mount Snowdon on a winter's night is illustrated in narrative form, showing the glimpses of creatures hardy enough to be up a mountain in wild winter weather. Robins, who sing nearly all year round, bullfinches, starlings and barn owls are all native UK birds that can be spotted in winter. All are represented here in colourful, playful and immediate scenes from nature. A series of ink, pencil crayon and wax pastel drawings on paper and tracing paper made out of a desire to return to a simpler more immediate way of making work.
