Women at War

  • Isabel Hambly

Shortlisted as 1 of 20 finalists internationally for the ISKO Sustainable Denim Competition 2020. This project explores the battles of two groups of women across history and throughout the globe. Research into British women during WW2, taking on 'Victory Jobs' to protect their country, whilst also ingeniously finding ways to 'Make-do-and-mend' during rationing, an inherently sustainable practice. Inspiration also taken from contemporary global issues, researching the 'Akashinga' Women (Brave Ones) who fight poachers to conserve endangered animals in Zimbabwe. Both groups of women, who are divided by time and geography, are united in their fight to protect their homelands.
