Wrexham AFC Takeover: A Moneypenny welcome

  • Mike McCoole

In September 2020, globally renowned actor Ryan Reynolds and Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator and star Rob McElhenney registered an interest to takeover non-league football club Wrexham AFC. The news sent shockwaves throughout the community and the town (a working class town boasting the World's 3rd oldest professional club as it's life-blood) and lifted everyone associated with the club that had seen them drop down the divisions in the last decade due to mismanagement and questionable ownership. Working for a Wrexham-based company - Moneypenny - that boasts 500+ employees and has a more-than-decent record within the community; we thought we'd put together a series fun welcome posts for when the famous pair were granted100 per cent control. During our annual Christmas lights, where Moneypenny HQ takes on it's festive form by way of a light show installation from local firm Lightech, we thought we would shine the faces of the two men injecting much-needed joy into the town.
I created some vector art of the two stars - before simplifying down to the 'gobo'-style lighting effect.
Yes, that's a gorilla statue.

Moneypenny are renowned for their sock giveaways, so it was only fitting that we see Deadpool don a pair as news broke.
So why stop there? As confirmation that Messrs McElhenney and Reynolds had received the greenlight firstly from the Supporters Trust and then final confirmation from the FCA, we felt we should share the Moneypenny love with a sock giveaway to the fans.
