Young Farmers is a charitable federation of clubs that cater to young people ages 10 to 26. It has allowed me to develop lots of skills over my 8 years of membership. One of my main projects has been the Young Farmers Pavilion at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate that runs every July. I am the chairman of a small committee that are responsible for ensuring the show stand draws in crowds to raise money for charity and to educate the public about Young Farmers and all the good work we do. Personally I have been working on the committee as a volunteer since 2014. I have had to manage budgets, delegate, source all sorts of different props, source the best prices bespoke printed banners and other merchandise, manage 20 members of staff during show week and many other things that I would love to talk more about! In 2016 it was my decision to re-brand our stand and realign it with what Young Farmers is all about. As we are a charitable organisation we have had to be careful with our budget and therefore have decided to re-brand in stages each year, with the goal of having the everything modernised by 2020. This will includes signage, literature, decor, staff room, office, kitchen, indoor and outdoor displays to mention but a few.
During show week we have a ducking stool, log saw challenge, pallet challenge, performers singing ad dancing, a YFC shop, the chosen charity (2017 was the Yorkshire Air Ambulance), vintage and new tractors, a catering van, eating area, YFC annual debate, stock judging awards, competiton displays and much much more!
Attached are various photos taken from during my time as part of YFC at GYS and hopefully show what we have been able to achieve.
