You're out of your Element

  • Luis Fernandes

Twenty-five years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, when the free market swallowed Poland, Warsaw is still a city of surprise and reinvention. The communism that for years has been actively repressing freedom of speech and creativity has had the opposite effect in Warsaw, which has always been a sizzling hub for both. And as the city's economy now flourishes, this has never been more true, with radical changes on the streets and a cutting-edge emerging design scene. Long story short - Poland’s design scene is definitely having a moment. This is exactly why Warsaw has been an ideal context for our meetings with Element Talks' guests. A selection of top world designers under one roof? We had to push them for answers. What is the secret to being a successful designer? How can you achieve a work-life balance? Why is it important to talk about money openly? Should your work be political? Can love help you be a better designer? This series is a journey into the thoughts of artists and designers we met at Element Talks, an event in Warsaw exploring the backstage of the design profession. Their work is just a premise to talk about other significant things that happen to affect all of us and somehow have a relationship with their work. "You're out of your Element" is a partnership between Canal180 & Element Talks
