You've Got Mail - Campaign

  • Nikoletta Hristova

A 1950s Royal Mail Project used the strapline ‘Someone Somewhere Wants A Letter’, encouraging the public to connect with the people around them through the exchange of the physical and tangible object of the written letter. Revisiting the concept of that campaign brings up bigger questions about how we communicate through modern systems – virtual and real. What is the purpose and value of traditional forms of communication? You’ve got mail is an experimentation and exploration of the tangible. It uses elements of emergent design, which refers to the ability to adapt to new ideas, concepts, or findings that arise during the process of experimentation and creativity. Embossed on the postcards are different small objects that are or have been sent through the mail. The collection presents the uniqueness, personal touch and excitement from receiving a traditional postcard. The “touchiness” of the embossed objects creates another level of physicality and tangibility.
