Can you advice on a fresh grad's portfolio trying to get a full time job?

Hey, thank you for clicking this post! It means alot to me. I have been actively searching and interviewing for job positions in this industry for the past 4 months with no success.

This is my third version of my pdf portfolio. I am keen in junior art director role/ creative strategist/ user experience.

Any feedback or tips will be much appreciate.

  • My honest and fairly blunt resposne would be that you are aiming too high - you have only just graduated and you do not have the experience for the types of roles that you have listed. They are mid to high level positions.

Your CV - although very well presented is of a graphic design and not strategy, team coordination, client management and designing a shopify website is not really evidence of UX design. Are you able to demonstrate user experience centred design approach - what methodologies have you employed? - who did you do it for? - how was it shown to be successful? - research and metrics are invaluable here.

That's not to say you don't have great potential and a good starting point to get a position on a graphic design team. That's where I would suggest you start and then look to take on more responsibility within a team that starts to build your experience in the areas you want to develop your career.

There is a lot of competition in this sector and you will be up against much more experienced candidates.

Someone who is an art director may be able to give you more specific advice but also what's important here is the need of the employer - for mid to high level positions they usuaully want individuals who have the demonstrable experience, can start quickly with little assistance and have some immediate impact on the team and workflow.
