Could anyone offer advice on finding freelance design work in the music industry/growing my network?

I've worked as a designer for album artwork and marketing material for a couple of major labels and a lot of great independents. So far, I've found more work mainly through word of mouth and instagram and I've grow my network naturally.

I am happy with where my portfolio is at & I'm trying to make an active attempt at finding more projects. I have a list of ideal clients, but i'm not sure who to contact as many labels do not have dedicated art/creative directors. I have collected the contact details for several product managers, A&R managers and designers but i'm not exactly sure how to go about cotacting them and promoting myself.

Any advice would be much appreciated, and please feel free to have a look at my work on my profile or at louis-byrne.com

Thanks!

Louis

  • Try https://www.biypeople.co.uk/ Silv has lots of connections in the music industry and places freelancers and permanent staff.
  • Love your work - get in touch with labels, your ideal clients and artists directly. Use the email you feel is relevant/good, follow it up and see what happens. Compose the email in a way in which you can ask them to direct you to the correct or relevant contact.
Create a database and keep on top of who you have contacted and what the response was. I would say now is a good time to do this too, as more people are at their desks potentially?
Also, if instagram has been working well for you, swoosh your portfolio to artists you like and ideal clients.
    Hope it goes well!
  • Hey Louis, I run an agency that works mostly with music clients. We're always looking for new designers to work with. What is your day rate?
