Do you find it more helpful to listen to songs in different languages or instrumentals?

  • As far as I’m concerned, I found it’s not about whether the artist I’m listening to indulges in vocals or not, it’s about the rhythm and intensity of their piece!

Working in the music industry, I need to always be on the lookout for new bands and artists, which makes working in silence (my preferred way of going at (copy)writing) a mostly-impossible-to-achieve task.

What really helps me fill the noise without making my mind wander is fast, hard and gritty early hardcore music. The sonic velocity that marks the genre is perfect for helping you perceive time differently and the yelled lyrics make it so you can’t catch yourself focusing on cracking them rather than working, as they’re complex enough you need a lyric sheet to understand them most of the time.

If you’ve never given the genre a try I would jump in with an open mind – it’s not the most accessible field if you’re into softer sounds, but if you’ve got some pent up rage in you, are into politics, are up for a new adventure while having to stay at your desk and wanna get your hands onto a revolutionary movement, I’d really recommend it!
