Does anyone have any advice/insights on getting into the music industry as a designer?
I am looking for opportunities to use my design skills within the music industry, creating album artwork, promotional posters, merchandise etc and I would love to learn more about the best paths to take to get into this industry - who best to contact/where best to look. If anyone has any advice, I would be immensely greatful.

- Search on google for music labels in specific areas > make a list> search them on linkedin> check the employees> grow your network and try to get the right e-mail adress to wich sent out your availability to work with them.
- @Ø Macioti Amazing advice. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it!
- I’ve found that checking out and trying to help local bands also helps a lot. They usually don’t get as much traction as they wish, and making them feel special really helps you make those shining connections you really need!
- @Abbie Ewards Aw shucks - no problem. Good luck, dude. There are a lot of labels and promo companies out there. Yours for the taking!
- @Sam Carter Thank you Sam! This is great advice. I currently create album artwork, posters etc on my social media, so will continue that and will definitely reach out to smaller bands and promoters to land freelance work and build my portfolio. You're right that contacts are worth a lot!Thank you so much again for taking the time to respond, it means a lot and is solid advice which I will take on board!
- I would suggest developing conept albul art that could be rolled out onto all social media touch points. Record Cover/Insta/Spotify/Apple Music/Promo posters/Stickers etc. Often working with smaller bands and promoters is a a great way of building kudos and a folio of work. Similar to designing cool beer labels, look into the brand's tone of voice and style - mock up a collection of beer labels and present to them. Once you have a collection of mock ups you can get emailing to all the relevant deptarments and building connections on The Dots/LinkedIn/Insta. Just my thoughts - contacts are worth their weight in gold. The best advice would be from someone who is doing what you want to do. Email a record companies art dept!
