Does anyone have any advice on how to find a career in the music industry? It all seems to cryptic and closed off

  • Hey Robin,
It is pretty hard to break into, but you can do it with persistance! First I'd start by identifying the type of roles you're interested in eg engineering, A&R, marketing, artist management, bookings. The routes for entry are different for all - artist management for example, usually someone just finds an artist they're interested in and starts having a go! And then over time you might join a management agency/set up your own. The more practical roles like engineering you'd probably need a post grad - places like Abbey Road offer these. Alternatively for more office based roles, its more a case of internship to entry level role, and then working your way up. I interviewed a Komali, an A&R Manager at Parlephone and she had a different career first before going back to intern in A&R - you can listen here if interesting: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2d8LDrhTp9mamdma5Dw6Na?si=bea35ee33f3947eb Hope that helps!
