Does anyone know anyway that an inexperienced artist can slowly get started?

Like any small projects? Anywhere (social media or websites) that could give tips or opportunities for upcoming artist?? Any help would be appreciated!!

  • I really like Artenda and check it often - they post lots of open call opportunities for free (mostly on their social media,) but also has a low subscription fee to access all kinds of global calls - for exhibitions, residencies, and public art projects.
  • Hey Davina

I would really recommend joining a youth arts group around wherever you are based. These are normally connected to galleries/museums and will give you opportunities to collaborate with others, gain professional experiences and introduce you to people working in the arts.

A good follow on instagram is @paulsmithfoundation, the feed is lush and full of prompts.

In terms of small projects, there is Curator Space which can be a bit rubbishy but does throw up a good opportunity every now and again.

The best advice that I can give is to just apply for anything that catches your eye. You just have to go for it! 🙂
  • Sorry- sent that too quick! I started out with peopleperhour, but you’re competing with people all over the world with lower costs and lower fees- you don’t pay to pitch but they take a huge cut.

Bark is regional and so you’re competing against people in the uk - I’d say join the AOI too..
  • Create a profile with bark.com - you’ll need to pay about 2credits
