Has anyone had success with advertising in printed media for digital services? (web design, digital marketing) and if so, what worked well?

I'd love to know how often you've used print to generate new business.

If you've had success with this did you make a specific offer (for a low-cost service/product) or did you have more success by advertising an expensive service (like website design).

I've recently joined a local Chamber of Commerce and am considering advertising in the magazine to get some new leads. Advertising 'web design' is way too broad and talks to nobody, but I'm toying with the idea of putting out a low-cost offer for a productised service to get new business, or wondering if I'd be best to try something targeted to a narrow audience.

I'm thinking the low-cost done-for-you service is the way to go but I'd love any feedback and suggestions.

  • @Chris Erasmus thanks Chris, that definitely does help. I held off on agreeing to any advertising until they agreed to include an editorial so that should be useful. It's how to use it to my advantage that I'm stuck with now. And I was thinking of using the ad space to promote a monthly service to see how that goes, and can switch it if it falls flat.
  • Hi Dan, have you thought about editorial instead of advertising? I've found print can be a bit hit and miss - but if you can put together a good story and distribute your press release through relevant channels, that could work very well. Sometimes even resulting in radio and TV coverage too. Have a think about how much you want to spend, what you ideally want to achieve and then look at how you can achieve your objective with Print v PR.

    Hope this helps,
    Chris
  • Morning Dan,

We've had some success with the above but not through advertising in the Chambers of Commerce hard copy magazine. We have done it a couple of times but only had success when we moved away from the advert and created content for the magazine instead.

Basically, we have now go down the PR route when it comes to the Chambers,

    Hope that helps.
