Hello! Could anyone please give me some advice on pricing short animations and also live event illustration? Thanks

Unsure on whether to price per day or hour regarding the live event illustration and taking into account the amount of illustrations I’ll be producing. But also taking into account it’s a first for me! A little uncertain on both so any advice is welcome! Thank you

  • @Luke Freeman Thanks for your response Luke. I'm definitely a junior when it comes to this and I also thought the same about a day rate.

The live event illustration would be for a 3 hour event producing roughly 18-20 illustrations. No offence taken at all, in fact the estimtes you gave are roughly aorund the same of what I had noted myself so that gives me some reassurance I'm not pricing too low or too high.

Pricing is a funny one isn't it. Still after pricing my work for a few years now I still struggle and feel uncertaintly and panick around it - something I'm unsure I'll ever really master
  • For the animation regardless how short I would charge a day/hourly rate. Animation can be labour intensive and getting things signed off then factor delivering different formats/ratio sizes/compression etc. This also depends on your level as an animator are your Junior or Mid-Weight.

    know some Mid-Weights/Seniors would charge £500 - £1000 a day
    Junior would be £150 - £300 max a day

Live event illustration this would be your day rate again covering 8 hours also don’t forget cost of materials, travel cost or accommodation also food. Think of it as like a guest speaker doing a talk. Don’t take it personally, if you was charging I’d say your rate is £300 - £500 or you could ask do you live event rate.
  • Also I understand usage plays a big part in the cost too so let’s say an example for animation usage is for social media Marketing purposes, thanks
