Hello there! Would there be anyone who could possibly give me some feedback on my CV/Website Portfolio please? Open to all suggestions :)

I am a 2019 Graphics Design Graduate (graduated last year) that does a bit of Photography on the side whilst trying a range of things to expand portfolio, so my work is still a bit mixed and new.

  • Hello,

I will mention a couple of lines first so that you don't get discouraged with my feedback. Keep going. It takes a very long time and a lot of hard work to create a website for a personal portfolio. Keep asking for opinions and don't give up! Also Reddit design forum, has helped me a lot. I have gone through about 3 or 4 redesigns of my website - mainly by feed back from users.

Hope the the below helps you.

    G.
    _____

There are numerous issues regarding the website. Having said that it is good to see that there website has an excellent url, rather than a .squarespace, .wordpress etc.

Very large problem - the website is poor when it comes to mobile presentation, the design does not work well. This should be given some thought

    User experience.
    - Typefaces are difficult to read on home screen, due to white on light blue
-Remove the video background of the dots, videos can take time to load
    - The cv link is out of place and does not blend well in the corner, however it is excellent to see that is opens in a new window and has a good PDF name
-The website site home page says 'about' in the browser tab. As a user I want to begin on the home page
-The copyright notice says 2018, this should be updated
-Remove the speech bubble and just have the text on the left and your photo on the right, under the text in bold should be the link to the cv
    - Careful of your colour choices any reason why its blue and yellow on the about screen
-Think about introducing a home screen that has your work on it first, rather than a bio. I want to go on your site, not for your bio but to see work. I will want a bio when I see that the work is good
    - Remove the word 'graphic design graduate' and just say graphic designer'
    - Rather than the navigation heading of portfolio, use the word projects or works. This entire site is a portfolio.
    - You must be smart with the order of your projects. Advertising is by far the strongest, this should go first. Also organise the most recent first
    - The alignment for the explanation text on projects is not the same, some are centred others are left align
-The photography tab is tough to understand. Photography is not design
-The way the work is presented could be better. First there is a lot of work under each project. Reduce and only show the best. Second, make the images larger - i.e. no thumbnails, make them as large as you can get them and allow the user to scroll or swipe their way to the end
    -The contact form is excellent.
-However you should display and email where you can, as not all users will want to send you an email straight away, but might want to note it down

    CV
    - For your into text on the about page. This needs to be looked at. A statement like 'My work is a bit of everything' is difficult to understand, it tells me very little.
    - I mentioned above about photos. The collection of work you have is broad, from branding, advertising, illustration and photography retouching. If you were to state something like that compared to your work is a bit of everything, this would be better
    - I would remove all of 'Honestly, my whole life up until this very moment has been an art project in itself, which I find great because I can do a bit of everything for everyone. I like Photography , Travelling , Sushi, Sci-fi Thriller movies and simply spending time around my family'

-The CV is one page. Impressive work
    - Take away the colour boxes, and make the design simple
    - Parts of the text is white to black, keep it all one colour
    - No text should be slanted, this is an important document that needs to show that you are a serious person with design knowledge. You do not know who is going to read the document, it could be someone from HR who knows nothing of design. So a simpler cv the better
    - I do not know what order to read things, for example you have skills before experience?
    - My personal cv is set up has my name on top left, then a heading on the left hand side 'work' - then on the right is my work, the next heading is education, then skills. Three headings. Contacts and links appear on each page as a footer as with my name on the top left. Think of your CV as your own personal branding stationary that you are giving to a client
    - Education is very difficult to read when the text is aligned center
    - Line height and text size is not standard what so ever, this must have more order to it
    - Do not try and reinvent the CV. Commit yourself to order and Pinterest some images of company stationary.

Overall I think a good amont of works needs to go into making your work more straight forward for the user. I suggest a redesign of the website, and your CV. You need to make sure that the work is highlighted in the best possible way.

Keep going! It takes a very long time and a lot of hard work to create a website. Keep asking for opinions and don't give up!
  • Hi Chloe,
First, some really nice work you have!
I've focused on the navigation. To me your work is a little hidden, when you start with the About info. Especially when viewed on cell. The form / Headers and footer of the site is taking over the info.

Starting with the About info feels dubble when you have an dedicated About page as well.
    • If I were you, I would start with a mixed selection of your work at your starting page, which will take you to some the different portfolios. Pic your best off.
    • I would integrate the info from the Resume into site/about page or level bellow.

The collection page for all your diferent projects/portfolios.
    • When it comes for navigation, I would consider a rollemenu for your portfolios or maybe an option at the bottom of each portfolio to look at some more portfolios. So the viewer/visiter get in a flow viewing your site.
Don't be shy to show case your work. Let it fill the screen on desktop. • • Checked on cell, I had problem with viewing the seperate portfolios. The only show on the first level.
    – You might want to change 2018 into 2020 in the footer.

Hope any is useful. Have a nice sunday!
