Hey, would any of you have some guidelines for pricing of album artwork?

I’ve been asked by an old friend who is a talented up&coming musician about creating the album art for his new single. First stage in this exchange is to give him an idea of my price.

It would be great if any of you could give some examples if you have done album art before, or perhaps just some tips, things to think of etc.

At this point I’m not sure how long it’s going to take me, so I have got to come up with an approximate starting point.

Thanks

Oda

  • Hello Oda,

An album artwork really depends on the name of the artist creates it and the musician it made for. It can vary just as much than £200-£20000.

For a starting point as a junior illustrator you should charge on a £150-200 day rate base and it should grow relatively to your experience and success. Also if you work with a fix price be sure that you agree the round of ammends included in the original price. Hope it helps.
  • Work out you’re hourly rate and either start from there or figure out how many hours you can commit to the project in a day and then figure out your daily rate,
Don’t go lower than minimum wage but also consider the context of the band ie are they prominent/successful, or just getting started
