Hi guys, does any one know whether recruiters use Applicant Tracking Systems to scan CVs for creative jobs, such as graphic design roles?

  • @Tim Bray ahh. I see. I suggest then that you use a word CV however include a link to a portfoilio site which has your PDF CV available to view. If applying directly to an advertised job a PDF CV is great because the application will be sent directly to the recruiter. I can see that the Word document is requested when recruiters use a "CV Search" facility on site such as Reed. Hope this helps.
  • @George Buckland Hi George, many thanks for your response. I wanted the to check with experienced recruitment professionals that my CV, which is in a PDF format, isn’t being discarded at the first stage of the application process due to it not being in format which can be scanned by ATS software. Well known job sites like Reed, who advertise lots of graphic design roles, say CVs should be created in Microsoft Word as standard. As you know Word is limited when it comes to creativity.

  • Hello @Tim Bray - Why do you ask? As a Recruiter Agency owner I do not use an Applicant Tracking System to assess creative candidates for jobs such as Graphic Design jobs - this is because we take a personal approach rather than automating the process - recruitment, and particuarly creative recruitment needs a human touch. Does this help?
