Hi – I'd love some feedback on my work while I'm re-designing the site

www.faustinean.com
Looking for career advice to kick my freelance career, I just started few months ago and struggling to have clients on a regular basis, I was thinking to redisign my website, so if you have any feedback/advice, everything would be good to hear!

I also started an instagram in order to show my illustrations and use it as portfolio to find contracts.

  • @Faustine Aper-Nitche I think the brand should be probs your name if you are starting out. I think later on if you like you can change it to something else. Your name and your work is what you want people to know at this point. I however went the other way, I didn't use my name until later on. In fact even today on my website I dont have my full name. One thing to concider is do you want you name and the work you do to appear on Google. When I was starting out I wasnt too sure I wanted this, and thats why I had an alternative name - i.e. Blissfully Deluded.

A little bit contradictor my advice but its two perspectives. GL

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I really appreciate and it will help me a lot to rebuild my site :)
size text, front page.. but just one question : What do you call brand? My name?
    Thanks and stay safe

  • Instagram refer to yourself as a "Freelance #illustrator & Graphic Designer", but I go to your website and in the very small navagation text, I see Photgraphy...
    I am confused?
As already said a brand name would be nice. Also I think the size of the navagation text is very small, and I am thinking of large monitors what this may look like.
Also the front page, it would be nice to see more work on the front page, you dont get to scroll much at then you are at the end.
Nice looking work though, now the battle is to present it. Good luck.

  • Hi Faustine, great work! I had a look at both your portfolio and Instagram. I would suggest introducing the brand at the top of the page with the welcome message, it would be percieved as more welcoming and the user will get a clearer idea of the purpose of your website. Below, you could have a slide show or a grid of images showcasing your illustrations, textile, photography and even products to show your range of skills. For Instagram, I would suggest finding hashtags (maximum 15) which have been used 50,000 to 400,000 times related to your work.
