Hi! I’m doing some research for The Open Minds Project Charity. They are focusing on educating everyone about the lives of black people.
(FYI, this is pro-bono work not paid for)
They are currently doing so by providing schools with books featuring black characters as well as offering book readings. This charity is run by a group of passionate individuals, on top of their work, basically by pure love for the cause.
For context, a recent study from CLPE showed that only 10% of published kids books are featuring characters from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background while 33.5% of our children in primary school are from those backgrounds. (https://clpe.org.uk/clpes-reflecting-realities-survey-ethnic-representation-within-uk-children%E2%80%99s-literature-published)
We are interested in how the charity can better engage with Headteacher / Deputy Headteachers, Head of learning, PSHE lead and Librarians in primary and secondary schools. We are also interested in talking with parents or carers that want to educate their children about the lives of black people (and preferably already doing something).
These would be 30 mins video calls max, at people's convenience. If you know anyone that would be interested, please let me know in a DM. I will give more details about the process when people reach out. There is, unfortunately, no incentive for this research, though their time and contribution will be a valuable donation to the charity.
Thanks a lot for your help!
