Hi! Would anyone want to share their experiences with umbrella companies?

I just joined one and although I'm trying really hard to read all of their guides and grasp all the new knowledge at the same time, I am just wondering how does it look like in real life for creatives like me - good at drawing, really bad at admin work and understanding taxes.
Thanks!

  • They’re a mixed bag and looking for a good one can feel like a bit of a minefield. Not only that but some recruitment agencies will only work with certain approved umbrella companies so using one that isn’t on their list could mean you miss out work.

Best thing to do is to ask popular recruitment agencies which ones they and their freelancers use. They should be able to give you a list of tried and tested umbrella companies.

When I used to freelance I was with one called Parasol who were easy enough to deal with or alternatively go self-employed!
