How do you create a showreel?

I don’t even know where to begin, do I use After Effects? Is there another way I can’t think of? I have no idea where to start, does anyone have any advice?

  • @Alissa Colville Ah I see what you mean, yeah I just export all the best bits as flats then flip through them in photoshop -so there's none of the exciting classiness of things moving about like properly animated things!)
  • If this helps, because I don't do afterfx, as a short term 'what can I stick on Linked In to promo my designs' I literally made a frame animated rotation of my best bits just in Photoshop, typed some intro text, and exported 'as video' - was more than enough to drive people to my folio / share it etc
  • @Barna Imre thanks for the tip! i don’t know which works to choose and then i have no idea how people do the wireframe overlays on top of their models. seems so hard to make a nice one! never cut multiple images or videos together. have you made one for yourself?
  • you can use premier pro or any videoeditor software as long as you have footage material that can be cut together.
an advice that I hear often is:
    - keep it short (20sec -1 min max)
    - pick only your best works
    - synch the cuts with music
    - add a contact and exact professional title at the end( like motion graphic designer, animator etc) what you identify yourself as a designer
