How do you stop people from stealing your work ? Does anyone have any tips or tricks ? I’m aware that people can still edit out watermarks

  • My view might be controversial, so disregard if not useful to you!
Don’t worry about people stealing work. It happens rarely and worrying about it will hold you back. Develop a style that people know is you, as you grow a following your fans and followers will call thieves out for you if it does happen. If someone steals something, keep going and create loads of new work, out work them x10.
Also, and I’m sure you’re probably sick of hearing it, but look at NFTs and the built in security.
  • best to keep images online to 72 dpi as resolution is low and pixelated in printouts, you can go to gov.uk and register your own trademark name which can protect your work or just put a capital c or r on web site with copyrite next to it
  • @Thérèse B. I hate watermarks personally, I think it cheapens the look of the work ! Thanks so much for your advice x
  • Hello Kemi,
I assume you're referring to your work online?
Disabling right-clicks, but people can always do screendumps,
    • Don't upload you're images in bigger size than needed to be viewed on screen in the size you want. Seen several who upload way bigger files than needed, with resolution for print.
    • Fill in your metadata.
    • Maybe Digimarc could be helpful: https://www.digimarc.com/products/digimarc-barcode/digital-images

Regarding watermarks, in the Photoland community, at least in the part i move within, watermark is a big no no. Many seems to think they look kitch. Many of my illustrator friends do use it.
