I have recently finished my Graphic Comms degree and I'm hoping someone could advise the best way to gain experience in the industry?
I am looking to gain experience in different fields to find my place. I am a hard worker and willing to start at the bottom and work my way up as well. Alongside Graphic Communication, the film and music video industry fascinates me and I wonder if I could somehow get into this but I am not sure what step to take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

- @Luke Freeman Thank you for the advice!
- @Brittany Colyer reach out to places to be a gaffer or a runner on a part time basis, still allowing you to work a career plan.
- @Luke Freeman I’m unsure as to whether I want to go into the Graphics industry specifically at the moment
- Freelance, find small clients practise pitching, create experimental work etc. Don’t focus on applying for top studios or agecnies focus on small ones.Try work for a charity or in house designer for part time to give you experience working with a brand and designing for a brands.Create a model of what type of designer and your ethics, that could get attention or noticed. It takes years to get a career in this industry, and side hustle is defo needed and make friends those working in the industry.
- @Graham Higgins Thanks for the advice!
- @Graham Higgins I have a temporary admin position for 3 months in London I’m just not sure what the part after that is
