I'm 30 and hoping to break into PR, should I go down the qualification route or what would be the best way to proceed?

  • On the job experience is the best way in - get involved or volunteer with charity or social group after work that needs help raising awareness about their activity. Also read extensively - what great press coverage or social media campagins - stand out to you? What does good PR coverage look like? Think about the industry you want to work in - and start following brands in that industry - what are they doing well and less well? Many of them will have internship opportunities which could help you get a taste of what working in PR is like - and a chance to try out a few different companies. Good luck!
  • I'd recommend reaching out to the PR associations for guidance on this. You don't need a qualification but it can help. You can however gain experience. CIPR offers webinars and courses https://www.cipr.co.uk/ same with PRCA. I'd also start getting into publications like PRWeek and PR Moment.
