I’m a graduate and I feel like I’m applying to the wrong places online. Where can I find work on film sets as an assistant director/editor?

I’ve been applying for multiple position on LinekdIn, Indeed etc
My concern is that most jobs posted are corporate and agency based. Where would I find opportunities to join actual sets and meet other filmmakers?
Thanks

  • - Contact production companies who do work you like directly, and put forward if they’re ever looking for production runners for future productions to keep you in mind.
    - Many jobs are put up on socials. There are UK film & tv crew groups on Facebook that post jobs around around the country trying to crew up - some are closed groups but others that are open. Instagram is your friend! Follow the directors/companies/post production houses/editors you’re interested in and reach out to them there. People share call outs for jobs/onset experience on their stories all the time. Follow RunTheCheck and other profiles that post creative opportunities as they are very incredible resources.
-Sign up to the filmlondon, BFI, RunTheCheck, ItsNiceThat, Creative Lives in Progress etc mail lists, who compile jobs from different companies, departments, and formats and send newsletters bi-weekly. -There are equity crew lists that help provide accessible hiring for POC’s and those from low economic backgrounds.
    - Also if you’re looking at editor jobs- @trimediting posted 5 days ago that they’re looking to hire an office runner. Seeking in-house jobs laugh as these, which you may have come across already, are a great opportunity to work alongside editors, directors, producers in their pre/post-production stages and also put yourself forward to get on the productions you work on.
I hope this all helps, good luck Marois
