  • Don’t use the word ‘affordable’. It makes you sound cheap, and therefore not good at your job. It doesn’t give confidence to a client.

Would you hire an affordable doctor?

There is a lot of this going around which is devaluing designers in the eyes of clients.

Things like Ai, free stock images, free fonts. It destroys the craft, the intention, the thought that goes into work. Clients see this.

Thank you Darren, I appreciate your advice. Honestly, I hear what you mean, when you identify with “affordable” some people often think they can take liberties.

But I will channel this energy with me for any future endeavours.

But in my case, at this present time I’m not really targeting a wider scale audience. I am just trying to help my community. I’m sick of going to the local restaurants and the menu aren’t visually pleasing or barely readable lol. Or great food but absolutely chaotic branding.

Kinda just wanted to use my skills for good in this present time in my career !

  • A quick word of advice from an industry veteran. Be careful pitching yourself to potential clients as 'affordable'. To a lot of people out there, that will mean 'cheap and cheerful and can be pushed around a bit'.

Just a quick reminder to always know your worth and not to budge from it. Use the standard of your work as your marker. Not low pricing.

And there ends some gentle help up the ladder from an old man who has stood the test of time. ;-) Good luck with it!
