I started out as an artworker in 1999 & now do both graphic design & creative artworking for my clients. How can I help?

  • Hi Karis,
What type of artworking do you mean? Some of my friends are curators and also artists too. But most of them would need to have more than one job to support their goal because normally they don't get paid enough. That's a sad thing. Sometimes, they would need to fundraise to support their new project.
It's a bit hard to give you really useful suggestions without knowing your background.
But you can check Arts Hub, Art Fund, Zealous,... etc. There are some paid and unpaid projects you can find. I'd suggest you maybe try to get some projects first and maybe when you have more experiences, you can find a gallery to work with.

  • Hi Karis, I think you need to be more specific with your requirements. Do you want to be an artworker? Do you want to know what the job entails? Do you want practical advice/tips or tutoring?

I'd be happy to help in any of these areas.
    Garry
  • Hi Karis,
My recommendation would be to freelance or your various projects in agencies/design companies and if time allows try and deliver all your design projects to the final stage/final output for print and digital.
I would also learn Adobe illustrator as much as you can and read-up on 4 colour separations and spot colours/cutter guides. This will help you so much when your artworking under pressure in bug design companies where you have to deliver many design deliverables in short timeframes.
    Learning illustrator/photoshop is key.
  • Hi what do you want to know? Technical side or more general?
I have been an artworker for a very lomg time.
  • What kind of information are you after? I’ve been a career-long artworker since leaving college to do a reprographics apprenticeship at 17. Im now freelancing having worked at agencies and in-house, leading a team of artworkers in previous roles.
