  • Hi Lily, I would say sketching out your own ideas is a great first step. Then find YouTube videos that will give you the skills to realise your design. YouTube tutorials can be great but can also be aimless. Starting with your own ideas will help with consistency, which is the main ingredient in learning 3D modelling. That and patience. I currently teach a variety of 3D modelling software if you’re interested. My teaching profile is here: https://www.superprof.co.uk/architectural-designer-offering-lessons-for-architecture-and-design-students-revit-autocad-cinema-3dsmax-marvelous-designer.html

  • @Anthony Young Hi, mainly 3D product design.

I've been using a mix of adobe illustrator and dimension to create simplictic 3D shapes and products, but I'm working on updating an old concept and I think the quality of finish would be higher in blender.

I'm sure I will have more specific questions once i start, connecting would be great -thanks :)
  • Hi Lily 3D is broad area, what would you like to achieve?
Your lucky and spolt for choice there fantastic free software such as Blender to get you started.
I am happy to connect to give you some guidance.
  • Check out https://spline.design/
Its a new browser based 3D tool. If you already have experience probably Blender or C4D are better alternatives however Spline is easy to get started. Master the basics. Modeling, textures, camera, lightning and if you feel its something you want to learn more take a deep dive in Blender or C4D tutorials or courses.
  • Hey Lily,

There's a tonne of free resources out there for learning more about 3D design. If you are looking at 3D design for making, there are some awesome creators who do great all-level tutorials on YouTube. I've found intranetgirl's videos great to follow along to understand the basics of Blender better.

I hope this answers your question,
    All the best,
    Evie
  • I don’t know much about 3D design but I see a lot of really insightful and interesting IG accounts with good short tutorials (same goes to YouTube)
Also, would probably be useful to create fake prompts / client requests to get practicing (this is what I’m doing for UX design at least)
    Hope this helps a bit
