MEDUSA: The Great and Powerful

She was the most beautiful and most powerful of the Gorgan sisters.
She was turned into a monster against her will due to the power of her beauty to "turn men into stone".
She retreated to a desserted island to live out her days as a monster in peace.
She was mercilessly hunted and beheaded to be used as a weapon in someone else's war.

Medusa as a "monster" holds a strange place in mythology and her severed head serves as a reminder of the misperception of "monsters" all around us, especially the fear of powerful women.

Over a year, this work was completed in celebration of my daughter and wife, their beauty, their power, their gaze.

I'm so grateful to live in the time of the emergence of women in power on the whole.

This work is hopefully saying goodbye to the previous time.

Over 2.5 meters tall, this is my second largest canvas to date. I'm very pleased with the nature and accomplisment of this work and am proud to share it with you here.
