My pattern design business folded before It could start— what can I do with what I’ve done? Whimsyrabbit.com

I started out in books but ventured out to do pattern design. My brand is called Whimsy Rabbit (whimsyrabbit.com) and it was a massive undertaking and took a year to get ready, then COVID hit. I was unable to get my product into stores and markets were cancelled. I'm dreadfully unemployed now and I'm not sure where to go with my career. My book experience is all in publishing and printing adult comic books, not something that can be translated or expressed easily..... or even met with excitement for that matter. I don't want to leave art and I think I'm a good designer( plus all my schooling is in art!) , but I'm not sure where my experience can be communicated relevantly in this dog eat dog world. Any help, advice, and direction is so grealtly appreciated.

  • Hi Andrea! You have some lovely work! Why don't you maybe try and get your designs/products on platforms that curate from artists? This is something that has kickstarted because of covid.
  • Maybe you don’t have to give up on this? The products are great, your prints are great- COVID has slowed everything down but there are still lots of customers out there, especially for small businesses.

There are a lot of great free webinars at the moment about how to diversify and adapt your business to covid. (First one that comes to mind is enterprise uk).

Plus, lots of craft markets have gone virtual so in theory you could reach a much wider audience.

I know that starting a business is very hard, but it seems a shame to waste all the work you have put into this brand.
  • @Kristina Nikl Thank you Kristina, that's a great point. I actually had no idea going into it how much to charge, but I can definitely make adjustments!
  • why dont you try to connect those two. comics and your goods or childrens books? Everyone loves a good story.
In my humble opinion your prices for bags are little on the upper scale for a fresh starter.
