Need advice around making a Mural! Tips on execution / recommended materials / calculating costs / how much to charge?

Hello!

I'm being comissioned to design and paint a Mural for the entrance of a newly opening resturant/bar. There are two walls, roughly 10mx5m and there is an opertunity for me to make more murals in the building in the future, once the business has been running for a while!

I'm excited about the job but I've only ever made a small one before and I misjudged the time that went into it. Also I'm afraid that because it is in the entrace, the artwork will have to put up with high humidity from the temperature change.

Does anyone have any advice regarding specific paints, techniques, what is the standard rate for murals in the industry?

Thanks in advance!
Tom

  • Hello Thomas I am a mural artist and I charge £500 per day atm because I’m relatively new to it. I know lots who charge way more. Some graffiti artist charge grands for murals. I use spray paint and have taken the last few years to build up my experience and techniques. It’s the easiest way to cover a surfaces that size combined with emulsion to fill gaps and cover old surfaces. I would cover a wall that size within a day or 2 quite comfortably
