Tips on how to become a speaker at design events?

Hello creative friends! I'm here to ask for your opinions/suggestions on how to become a speaker at design events.

Are there some specific do's and dont's?

Is it worth getting in touch with the event organisers and let them know I'm available?

Are schools/unis a good place to start with this?

Do I need to prepare a sample of the presentation I'm intended to do?
