What are illustrator's opinions on doing an MA? Is it something that helps with work opportunities later?

Wondering if it's something that is hugely beneficial, specifically for freelance illustrators, or just an extra accomplishment. And for ADs, is it something that would affect your choice of illustrator?

  • @Berwyn Mure that's what I was thinking, I'm not changing direction so I don't know if it's necessary. thanks for the response!
  • Hi Julie I run a new MA Illustration - 2 years part-time but with full time access to resources and studio - so like having your own hired space, carrying on with your practice, but also developing via guidance and gaining an MA into the mix. Have a look at the link: https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate/ma-illustration-2

MAs are good for you to continue to further explore and refine your practice or to completely change direction! - the 2 years gives you the space within which to do this - 1 year is very fast. Best of luck. - Ashley
  • I think they're great if you have a particular project or direction to develop and want the time and resources to do so. Good for personal development but this is something you can do outside of a university too (and I think it's this that leads to better job opportunities later).
