What does 'Industry Experience' really mean?

I've been a graduate for 2 years now and I've had 22 interviews for jobs in photography/social media and each time I've been turned away due to my lack of 'Industry experience'

I am self taught from the age of 9 and now at the age of 26 have a degree, 3 A levels in photography and have worked on over 500 projects/photoshoots, established a network and open communicationw ith around 50 creatives from different fields and have a combined 1500 hours in a studio/darkroom environment but as far as I'm being told this still isn't sufficient experience?

I'd love some guidance on where I can improve my approach.

  • 'Industry Experience' means having the experience of doing stuff which is 'real' and will impact someone's work. Let me expalin by taking an example. Every industry is going throgh digital tranaformation - it is not new , started in the mainframe / Unix era 40 years ago. Now, if you are working on a product or project which can produce result and there is a feedback loop to improve and learn - you are gaining 'experince'. Just reding books or doing few online courses can give you the understanding - but when you ditry you hand to solve a real problem of a particualr domain - you gain 'Industry Experience'
